Water and Sewer Certified Operator
The Town of Monson is accepting applications for a qualified Certified Operator for the Water and Sewer Department to provide technical work to operate and maintain the water and sewer systems. The Town of Monson (pop. 8,150) is in Hampden County of Western Massachusetts.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications
License requirements include Massachusetts CDL Class B Driver’s, Hoisting 2A, D-2 and T-1 Certified Operator of Drinking Water facilities.

Work Schedule
The position is budgeted for 40 hours a week, Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm. Responds to emergencies, hours and shifts varies daily, scheduled weekend and holiday work is required.
Salary/Benefits
This is a union benefited position with a work schedule of 40 hours a week and with a pay range of $29.66-$36.88. Benefits include health, life, dental, vision, flexible spending, paid holidays and retirement. 10 days paid vacation after 90 days continuous employment.

UMASS - DEP
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) Drinking Water Program (DWP) partners with UMass Amherst to provide training and technical assistance to small and/or disadvantaged public water systems (PWS) in Massachusetts. UMass Amherst / MassDEP is currently looking to hire individuals to assist small and/ordisadvantaged PWS with aspects of the USEPA EC-SDC Grant Program to address emerging contaminants in drinking water.
This work may include assisting PWS through one or more of the following tasks:

Complete grant paperwork such as Project Scopes of Work, budget forms, and associated documentation
-
Evaluate PWS grant eligibility and financial need
-
Use federal and/or state tools for demonstrating grant eligibility and financial need and collect documentation to support eligibility and need
-
Assist PWS with project planning to address emerging contaminants such as PFAS or manganese
-
Ensure PWS compliance with grant requirements throughout the project timeline such as BABA, MEPA, MassDEP permits, etc.

Complete monthly project reporting forms for PWS grantees
-
Coordinate with PWS owners, operators, and/or contractors throughout the entire grant period

Develop training and guidance materials
-
Conduct training for PWS owners and/or operators

Respond to phone and email inquiries about the grant program

Attend periodic virtual (video conference) project meetings
Several positions are available. The selected candidate(s) will provide technical assistance primarily via phone/email and virtual meetings. Some in person meetings may occur on a case- by-case basis. Applicants must have a background in drinking water, engineering, grant management, or other closely related field. Basic computer andcommunication/people skills are required. Candidates of all experience and skill levels are encouraged to apply.
Schedule: 10-20 hours per week
Compensation: $18-45/hr depending on experience. This is an hourly, non-benefitted position.

Turners Falls Water Department
The Turners Falls Water Department is accepting applications for the position of Water System Operator. This individual will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the department’s water distribution and treatment systems and aid in providing the community with a safe, clean, and adequate water supply. The operator works at the direction of the Water Superintendent.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Performing daily operations within the drinking water system including monitoring of well pump stations, treatment facilities and storage tanks.

Servicing of pumps and machinery.
-
Inspecting and maintaining the storage tanks and distribution system.
-
Installation of, and repairs to, water mains and water service lines.
-
Meter reading, repairs, and installations.
-
Maintenance of the grounds, equipment, and facilities of the department.
-
Installation, repairs, and flushing of Fire Hydrants.
-
Responding to all emergencies and water main breaks.
Minimum Qualifications:

Valid Massachusetts Driver’s license, class D or higher.

High School Diploma or equivalent.
-
Must be available for on-call duty, including some weekends and holidays.

Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical exam and drug/alcohol test.
-
Must be able to pass a CORI criminal background check.
A MA Drinking Water Distribution 1 license will be required within six months from date of hire. A MA Drinking Water Treatment 1 license within 12 months from date of hire. A Backflow Tester/Surveyor license will be required within 18 months from date of hire. These licenses are a condition of employment.
